Andean Community organizes IP seminar

The city of Santa Cruz hosted a seminar on Intellectual Property were the regulations of the Andean Community were discussed.

The Andean Community (CAN, for its Spanish acronym) is a customs union comprising the South American countries of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. In June 1 it organized a seminar on Intellectual Property in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.

"This is a very current topic for us. The CAN countries have a huge cultural wealth and therefore interest in different issues of Intellectual Property has been high in the last years", said José Antonio Arróspide del Busto, General Director of the General Secretariat of the Andean Community, according to eju.tv. "We need to make the current legislation even more visible", he added.

The Andean Community has several supranational regulations (called Decisions) for the protection of Intellectual Property in its member countries. Experts from the CAN General Secretariat and assistants highlighted those Decisions during the seminar and called for an increase of their use for a better protection of human inventiveness.

"Intellectual Property is a matter of everyday life as it has direct relation with the ability of humans to invent and to create. And the Andean Community wants to take care of that creation", concluded Arróspide del Busto.
