Central America IP Offices sign agreement for IP development

During the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of Central America and the Dominican Republic on Intellectual Property, several Central American IP Offices signed a collaboration agreement on copyright and innovation.

Among other actions, the document includes the promotion of copyright and creative industries through training programs, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and projects particularly thought for small and medium-sized enterprises. It was signed by El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

The Fifth Ministerial Meeting of Central America and the Dominican Republic on Intellectual Property, which concluded on July 27 in Panama City, was carried out jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Panama.

Its main speaker was Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO, who addressed a number of topics such as the strategic relationships for the promotion of exports, trade and IP programs; the use of the international trademark protection system; and the commercialization potential of cultural wealth and the creative industry.
