El Salvador to apply latest version of customs management system

By Portal & Asociados - 05/08/2020

Gustavo Villatoro, Director of El Salvador’s Customs Office, announced that the country will implement a brand new integrated customs management system to support import and export processes, speed up transactions, reduce the costs involved in international trade and improve compliance with the legal requirements that govern international trade.

El Salvador will work with the latest version of ASYCUDAWorld, a software developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

ASYCUDA covers most foreign trade procedures, among them manifests and customs declarations, accounting procedures, and transit and suspense procedures. It also generates trade data that can be used for statistical economic analysis.

According to Villatoro, such features will allow El Salvador to faster clearance of cargo, improve revenue control, provide up-to-date accurate information on trade in goods and be the cornerstone for the Customs future programs.

The system takes into account the international codes and standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the United Nations. It can be configured to suit the national characteristics of individual customs regimes, national tariff and legislation.
