IMF carries out technical assistance mission in Honduras

Throughout its Regional Technical Assistance Center for Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) carried out a training program in Honduras for customs and trade operators.

“The mission worked closely with the staff from public institutions of Honduras in the adoption of international best practices, with the objective of improving and making them comparable with those from other countries in the world,” the IMF stated in a press release.

In its 2020 Annual Report & Work Program, the CAPTAC-DR highlighted Honduras for broadening the coverage of auditing and developing stricter controls over taxpayers based on risk profiles. The report also accomplished the country for increased transparency and implementation of the World Trade Organization agreement with the conclusion of the initial phase of a new process for registration of trade operators.

“It has improved capacity to mitigate risks of fraud and contraband, drawing on the regional strategy on integrated risk management and defining an action plan for a new post-clearance auditing to mitigate risk of fraud for sensitive goods,” the report says.
Established in 2009, CAPTAC-DR provides technical assistance to Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
