The General Directorate of Intellectual Property (DGPI) of Honduras and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held on December a two-day workshop in San Pedro Sula to promote the importance of trademark registration.
In Honduras almost 300.000 trademarks were registered and renewed this year, most of them foreign trademarks, although there was a positive evolution of national registries.
“Many Honduran companies launch products to the market without trademarks, ignoring the high value of Intellectual Property”, said the director of the DGPI, Camilo Bendeck, during the workshop. “Nevertheless national registries have been improved: seven years ago there were 7,000 Honduras trademarks registered or renewed per year and now there are between 8,000 and 12,000”.
