Trademark registrations expected to continue its growth

The General Directorate of Intellectual Property (DGPI) of Honduras registered 23.466 trademarks from 2014 to 2017, according to an article published by La Prensa. Trademarks, service marks, collective marks, certification marks, trade names, emblems, labels, slogans, advertising signs, geographical indications and appellations of origin are among the registries granted by DGPI.

DGPI’s authorities stated that trademark registrations will continue to increase in the country as a result of trade dynamism and tax reforms, two factors that have pushed regularization of people, businesses and companies.

Since January 2014 in Honduras is effective a tax reform that controls tax exemptions and anti-evasion measures. The new policy repealed a statute enacted in 2002 that made it possible in practice for taxpayers or withholding agents to avoid paying fines, surcharges and interest charged by the tax authorities in their tax audits.
