Paraguay discusses fashion and video games on Intellectual Property

The Paraguayan Association of Intellectual Property Agents (Apapi) carried out on October 10 its VIII International Seminar on Intellectual Property, "Fashion and video games", focused on analyzing the Intellectual Property rights of both of those fast growing industries.

Colombian lawyer José Roberto Herrera, master's degree in Intellectual Property from the Max Planck Institute of Munich, Germany, talked about the legal protection of video games. During its presentation it was mentioned that Latin America is the region where the video game industry grew most globally (20% in 2016) with revenues close to USD 100 billion that year. Although in Paraguay a more cohesive market for video games must still be consolidated, there are already five companies that work part time developing video games and even have presence abroad.

The fashion industry was addressed by Bruna Rego Lins, a Brazilian professor of Intellectual Property Law and Contracts related to the Law of Fashion, and Adriana Chaparro, general manager of the Industrial Confederation Association of Paraguay, who valued the fact that national fashion and clothing sectors generate almost USD 100 million per year in exports.
