Peru presents a campaign to fight piracy and unfair competition

The Ministry of Production of Peru presented the campaign "Purchase legal, purchase original” that seeks to fight piracy and unfair competition in favor of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the consumer’s health and safety.

"Smuggling, piracy and counterfeiting in all their forms represent economic and social damage to the country, as they’re illegal activities that harm the national industry and the private investment”, said minister Raúl Pérez Reyes. "Piracy is literally theft and it has to be understood that way by the population. If we want to be a developed country, we have to walk through that route with an institutional framework that has legislations and organisms to protect consumers”, he added.

According to Peru’s revenue service (SUNAT) during 2017 the amount of smuggled goods that entered the country amounted to US$ 586 million, of which US$ 109 million correspond to not collected taxes.
