The PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway), allows applicants who have obtained a favorable patentability report to benefit from the work done in other country and request that it is taken into account by the other National Industrial Property of the countries involved as Post-Review Offices.
The major advantage of this program is that it speeds up the National Office’s patentability examination process and reduces associated costs by avoiding duplicate administrative actions, patent searches and patent examinations by each Office.
By participating in the PPH, domestic applicants that have a favorable report may accelerate the processing times of their patent applications or utility models in a Prosur member country, which will reduce the associated costs.
The Cooperation System on Management Information and Industrial Property-PROSUR, was launched in 2010 in order to build together a regional solution for trademarks, patents, utility models, and industrial designs. Through data and information exchange, this initiative allows greater efficiency and quality of search and examination processes as well as decisions adopted by the different Offices of Industrial Property of Latin America.
